SBMS Community Spaces Project

When Santa Barbara Middle School needed to raise funds to improve the campus for students and neighbors, they needed something to help potential donors visualize the final project.  These renderings, used for print media and videos filled that need.

Santa Barbara Middle School wished to enhance the campus for  its students and to provide increased privacy for neighbors.

The Community Spaces Project modified several campus areas to give students places to gather at lunch and before school, separated safely from vehicles.  Interior spaces were modified to provide study hall spaces. On the upper lawn stone seating was recessed into the hillside to provide more gathering space as well as outdoor classroom space.  Additionally, a large sound wall combined with a new workshop and fenced basketball court provided sound privacy for nearby neighbors as well as campus enhancements for staff and students.

These renderings were produced solely from site photos, site measurements, and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floor plans for the building.  A 3D model was constructed of the entire campus, allowing views from many angles not physically possible with other methods.

The main community space, carved out from former parking lot and underused landscape, now provides a safe gathering space for people to enjoy.
